The test is identical to that of Yates’s χ2 test except that, in the test involving a 3×3 or larger matrix, the number of cells in each row and column must divide by two. In Yates’s χ2 test, the number of cells in each row and each column must be not only divided by two, but also squared so that the result is a number with the same units as the expected number of cells. If the cells in a row or column should be ignored, the respective row or column is removed from the matrix before the test begins.
The test has the same interpretation as that of Yates’s χ2 test.
